The Record button and your boat
Tap Record in the bottom bar. SailLab fills in your boat automatically — your default, or the only one on the team — and shows it at the top. If it can't, it asks; tap the bar any time to switch team or boat.
The race timer
- Ping the Pin End as you sail past it.
- Ping the Boat End — the committee boat — and SailLab has a fixed start line.
- A finish line is optional, appearing once the start line's set. Ping it too, or leave it — the start line doubles as your finish.
What the timer shows
Distance to the line, and time left before the gun — an estimate that sharpens as you approach. Drift over the line early and it warns you.
Locked screen
note
The countdown stays accurate with your phone locked or in your pocket — it doesn't need to be open for the timer to be trustworthy.
Apple Watch
Record on your Apple Watch and leave your phone ashore. The session syncs and uploads itself once you're back in range, using your default boat — it asks only if it can't work that out.
Stopping
- Slide to stop.
- Add a short description — a regatta, a training focus — or skip it.
- It uploads automatically right after.
Discarding
warning
While a recording is still running, tap Discard recording and confirm. The GPS track is deleted permanently — nothing saved or uploaded, no undo.
Recording history
Drafts, failed uploads, and reassigning
Every stopped recording is cached on your phone, then uploaded immediately. A failed upload — usually a dead patch of signal — isn't lost: open Recording History from the history icon on the Record screen to retry it, or reassign it to a different team and boat first.
